Tom Hamer

When Tom was 10 years old he was told he wouldn’t succeed at swimming, at school he was told to give it up and it would get him nowhere in life.

Tom proved everyone wrong as at just 12 years old Tom swam the English Channel as part of a relay team in under 11 hours.

At 14 years old Tom was classified as an S14 Para Swimmer.

When Tom reached 15 years old he represented Team England and Great Britain as a Para Swimmer at both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships winning a silver medal in the 200m freestyle event. Tom also broke the British record for the 200m freestyle. He currently holds the British records for the 50m, 200m, 400m freestyle events, 200m IM and held the World record for the 200m freestyle.

At 16 years old Tom became a full-time member of the British Para swim team and World class performance programme averaging 220km in the pool per month, training full-time six days a week. Tom is an ambassador for the UK Sport Association inspiring the next generation of athletes with learning disabilities.

Now 17, Tom is European Champion taking a Gold medal in 200m Freestyle at Funchal 2106 in Madeira, Portugal. A week previously in Glasgow Tom set the qualifying time for Rio in both 200m Freestyle and IM.

Tom Currently holds the following British records:

100m Freestyle 54.79

200m Freestyle 1.57.27
