A new look Derek Chisora (fuelled by Soulmatefood’s Sportskitchen) took to the boxing ring on Saturday night at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Looking in great shape the new look Derek ‘Del Boy Chisora’ beat Edmund Gerberat to become the new European heavyweight with sights now on the world title.

Weighing in at his lightest ever for a professional fight, Chisora looked great and ‘training every day’ in conjunction with our Sportskitchen perform plans Derek looked in fine form at 16 stone 11lbs after losing another 7lbs from his previous fight against Malik Scott. After a quick start and cutting his opponent in the third round Chisora finished the fight in the fifth round with the referee bringing it to a stop when Chisora stepped up a gear to win the vacant EBU European Heavy Weight title.

As Dereck didn’t have to make a specific weight we kept the carbohydrates in his diet at a moderate level (using the Perform Plan) to allow him to maintain a high training intensity, whilst still dropping 7 lb over the course of the camp. Dereck had also informed use that he usually develops a upper respiratory tract infection (URTI – i.e. cold or similar) at least once during a camp, meaning several days of the camp were lost. This was also a reason for a moderate carbohydrate intake, we also included an increased intake of vegetables to try to maintain immunity. Over the course of this camp Dereck did not report suffering from a URTI, allowing him to train hard each day, a job well done in our eyes! The high protein content of the Perform plan also helped ensure that lean body mass loss was kept to a minimum.

Chisora explained to our nutritionist that the food “has really helped him get back in the ring“, leaving him feeling energised and motivated. His weight has been a significant factor in previous fights and with a more streamlined look to Chisora we can really see him moving up to a World title fight very very soon!
